  Education

Education is one of the strongest of forces to break the cycle of poverty. SUEB aims at giving opportunities to poor children to excel in their studies. Most SUEB members did not have an opportunity to complete their school education. That is the reason SUEB offers them vocational training programmes. But their children, including girl children, are now studying in schools. We wish to improve the quality of education for the school children and offer Vocational Courses for the youth to become gainfully employed.

Community Colleges

SUEB runs 7 Community Colleges at Chennai, and the Districts of Kancheepuram, Thiruvannamali, Vellore, Villupuram in Tamilnadu State and Kohlapur and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra State.

School Enrichment Programme
Many of the students who study in the Panchayat/Village Schools  are ‘first generation learners’. Their parents are illiterate or semi-literate consequently, they are not able to assist the children at home. They only get input from the school. The facilities available in these schools are very limited. So additional teaching aids, uniforms, snacks, play equipments, toilets and tuition teachers are provided. Excursions are arranged. Various Co-curricular activities are organized so that the students can have overall better development. The academic performances of the students has improved. On behalf of the poor children we record our thanks to Friends of India (FOI) and Heart for India (HFI).

Rights of Children
Children are vulnerable. They depend on adults in whose hands their present and future lies. Especially girl children receive less food and less education. When their male siblings go out to play, the girls are expected to do the domestic chores and even go to work to earn income. Most often it is their grand-mothers and mothers who perpetuate the low status of girl children. We educate our SHG women to give equal opportunities to their girl children, so that they can blossom to their full potential. We encourage them to send their girls for higher studies. The purpose of our community college is to help the girls to get educated and find gainful employment.
It is also important that the children protect themselves against domestic and sexual violence. We also educate our women in child rearing practices.

SUEB motivates and encourages the SHG women to provide better opportunities to their children, so that their families can have an upward mobility of social and economic status.
